Our Story

Our Story

We have always had a passion for serving the community, and as residents of Aurora Heights, we longed for a space that represented and supported the heartbeat of our neighbourhood.

There have been many instances when we felt this void. We longed for a nearby spot where we could grab reliably fresh groceries, pick up ice when having a family gathering, or buy eggs for Sunday brunch when we realized we had only one egg left. If we craved such a place, chances were that our neighbours did, too.

One spring day in 2018, we noticed that our neighbourhood convenience store in Parkview Plaza went up for lease. We instantly turned to each other with a knowing look, smiled, and said, “Should we? Are we crazy?” After a long year of deliberation, imagination, quitting a corporate job, and some serious thought, we decided to go for it.

As time went on, we shared ideas of how we wanted to enhance the experience of the neighbourhood if we owned a shop. “Wouldn’t it be fun to sample hot chocolate to families on the nearby toboggan hill in the winter, and ice cream by the playground in the summer?” we mused. We discussed adding curb appeal by installing bike racks, a patio, and putting out a water bowl for the neighbourhood dogs. In time, we’d plant a garden, and create fun, photo-worthy moments for our neighbours.

We were thrilled that many of you noticed our storefront sign and contacted us with much enthusiasm about our upcoming opening—however when the pandemic hit, it changed everything for us. We felt the turbulence in our community and our own lives, which involved lockdowns, virtual schooling, temporary job loss, and financial uncertainty—to name a few concerns.

As for the space, construction challenges and renovation delays were only some of the obstacles. In addition, the retail industry was quickly pivoting, as large-chain convenience stores suddenly began billing themselves as friendly, neighbourhood alternatives to supermarkets; online shopping reached record numbers; supermarket delivery services surged in popularity; and our vision to feature local and artisan brands became mainstream almost overnight.

We were having second thoughts about whether bringing our concept to life was a good idea anymore, but we strongly believed we had something to offer our community. One of our mottos has always been “leap and the net will appear,” so we stuck to our plan and leapt. We later noticed when we finalized our lease, it turned out to be
on leap day, February 29, 2020!

Yours Conveniently is a marriage of passion and practicality, designed to support the neighbourhood’s needs and enhance the experience of living here. To all of our neighbours, present and future, thank you for being part of our story, and we look forward to seeing you soon.

XOXO,

Jeff & Toni
